- 3 to 5 years within the maintenance / engineering function in a heavy industry environment - pulp and paper, steel processing, mining, etc.
- 1 to 3 years in the role of mechanical technician within this environment.
- Experience in developing and implementing maintenance plans and strategies for pipelines, including scheduled replacements, inspections, and preventive maintenance.
- Understanding of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations governing pipeline maintenance, such as ASME, API and SAN347.
- Proficiency in using relevant tools, equipment, and technologies for pipeline maintenance and repair work.
- Experience in the application of the following core engineering processes
- Maintenance quality management.
- Shutdown management and task execution.
- Budgeting and cost management.
- Contractor management.
- Fault-finding and troubleshooting (application of problem-solving techniques & tools).
- Holding the responsibility of the technical expert of plant machinery, from the mechanical perspective.
- Providing technical support (in terms of data, information, etc.) to the artisan execution team.
- The execution of more complex maintenance activities, including the management of contractors required for these activities.
- Accountable for day-day decision-making on the prioritization of break-down and break-in work activities within the work schedule.
- The role shall serve as the first call on break-down events to support the problem diagnosis and advise the maintenance artisan team on appropriate corrective action.
- Troubleshooting - understand, utilize, and use technical drawings, P&ID's, etc. for fault finding on plant problems.
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards by the team during maintenance execution.
- The role shall provide support to the planning department on routine maintenance and shut-down activities from a technical perspective.
- Management of repairable and non-repairable spare parts as per the RACI definition of the process procedure, such as quality check activities, etc.
- Management of specific maintenance service contracts in the plant.
- Analysis and ownership of actions arising from equipment condition-based monitoring reports (including scoping of work). Collaboration with condition-monitoring team from this perspective.
- Management of operational risk arising from equipment defects and faults ('mill equipment risk list').
- Identify and implement small-scope improvement projects and initiatives from a technical design perspective with the intention on improving service life.
- Auditing of the quality of service received by the Central Maintenance Services department.
- Auditing of the quality of maintenance performed by centralized maintenance execution (hydraulics).
- Maintaining the required condition of plant and equipment.
- Direct support and management (setting the standard) of the quality of maintenance execution in the plant.
- Management of the plant technical documentation as per the RACI definition of the process procedure.
- Management of cost within the assigned cost centre.
- Support the Maintenance Manager in ensuring compliance to all mill asset care procedures (with specific reference to Work Order, Technical Change and Shutdown Management processes).
- Support the central Engineering department during appropriate technical processes (for example, RCFA investigations).
- Support the central Engineering department through the identification of improvement potential and sources of loss.
- Support the central Engineering department in the development of applicable Engineering Standards for the mill.
