Our client in Alberton North is seeking a Diesel Forklift MechanicThe Diesel Forklift Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of diesel-powered forklifts used in the beverage manufacturing industry. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of forklifts, contributing to the overall productivity of the manufacturing process.Key Responsibilities:
  • Routine Maintenance:
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on diesel forklifts, including inspections, lubrication, and fluid checks, to ensure optimal performance.
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance tasks as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Diagnostic and Repairs:
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues with diesel forklifts, addressing both minor and major malfunctions promptly.
  • Execute timely and efficient repairs to minimize downtime and maintain a reliable fleet of forklifts.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure all forklifts meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections and implement necessary repairs to guarantee a safe working environment.
  • Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Log repairs, parts used, and other relevant information in the maintenance database.
  • Collaboration:
  • Coordinate with the warehouse and production teams to schedule maintenance activities during non-production hours to minimize disruptions.
  • Communicate effectively with other mechanics and relevant departments to address and resolve issues promptly.
  • Parts Management:
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and order supplies as needed for forklift maintenance.
  • Keep a well-organized and efficient parts storage system.
  • Training and Development:
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in diesel forklift mechanics through continuous learning.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Diesel Forklift Mechanic, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems specific to forklifts.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills related to forklift mechanics.
  • Familiarity with maintenance and repair tools and equipment used in forklift maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in forklift mechanics is a plus.
