Head of Engineering - SandtonFull job descriptionJOB PURPOSELeads the engineering function; sees to the development of a product plan and road map; leads research, development, and/or engineering activities and the maintenance of products.RESPONSIBILITIESSolution ArchitectureFunctional Solution Architecture: Evaluate and ensure that technology solutions align with business requirements, demonstrating scalability, efficiency, and responsiveness while promoting seamless integration and interoperability to support the organisation's functional objectives.Technical Solution Architecture: Assess the robustness, scalability, and technological soundness of implemented solutions, ensuring they align with industry best practices and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the IT infrastructureUX/UI: Measure the user-centric design effectiveness, accessibility, and overall satisfaction of technology solutions, ensuring that the implemented architectures prioritise a positive and seamless user experienceDevelopmentAgile Development: Gauge the efficiency, adaptability, and collaborative prowess of the development process, ensuring that the team can rapidly respond to changing requirements and deliver high-quality software with a focus on continuous improvementWaterfall Development: Assess the structured and sequential approach to project management, ensuring that projects are meticulously planned, executed, and completed within defined timelines and budget constraintsDevelopment Operations: Measure the efficiency, collaboration, and automation of the software development lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration between development and operations teams to achieve faster, more reliable, and continuously improved delivery of software productsConfiguration & AssemblyProduct/Service Sourcing: Evaluate the effectiveness of acquiring and integrating external products or services, ensuring optimal alignment with project requirements, cost-effectiveness, and reliability in contributing to the overall configuration and assembly processesProduct/Service Configuration & Assembly: Assess the efficiency, accuracy, and speed of integrating diverse components and services into a cohesive and functional IT system, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with organizational objectivesPlatform and API Integration: Measure the effectiveness and seamless interoperability of integrating various platforms and APIs, ensuring a cohesive and flexible technology infrastructure that supports the organization's overall objectivesData Supply ChainData Lifecycle Management: Evaluate the efficiency, security, and compliance of managing data throughout its lifecycle, ensuring optimal utilization, accessibility, and integrity from acquisition and storage to processing and eventual disposalAnalytics & Insights: Assess the capability of the organization to derive meaningful insights from data, measuring the effectiveness of analytics tools and methodologies in providing valuable information for informed decision-making and strategic planningQuality AssuranceDevelopment Testing: Evaluate the effectiveness of testing processes during the development lifecycle, ensuring early identification and resolution of defects to enhance software quality, reliability, and overall customer satisfaction.User Testing: Gauge the end-user experience, satisfaction, and usability of software products, ensuring that the implemented solutions meet user expectations and contribute to overall customer successTransition ManagementRelease Management: Assess the efficiency and reliability of deploying software releases, ensuring a smooth transition from development to production while minimising downtime and potential disruptions to the end-usersChange Management: Measure the effectiveness in handling and implementing changes to the IT environment, ensuring a structured and controlled process that minimises disruptions, enhances adaptability, and supports the organisation's overall strategic objectives.BudgetingTake overall responsibility for setting and approving budgets that achieve organisational strategyStakeholder EngagementIdentify and manage stakeholders up to top management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisionsCorporate RepresentationRepresent the organisation in a variety of industry and professional forums in order to promote the company brand.
