Industrial Designer - Cape TownFull job descriptionIndustrial DesignerJob Summary:As an Industrial Designer within our company, your primary responsibility is to design and optimize joinery products/components, simplifying manufacturing processes and improving efficiency, productivity, and quality throughout our projects.Key Responsibilities:You will be required, but not limited to, the following responsibilities within our design team:Creating 3D building models using specialized software, such as AutoCAD.Develop variations of products/designs as requested.Using BIM software to generate working construction drawings in 2D, such as floor plans, sections, details, and other specifications related to relevant projects.Collaborating with conceptual designers to develop design plans and specifications.Maintaining and updating project documentation as required.Identify potential conflicts or issues in the design process and work to resolve them.Providing technical support and guidance to other team members as needed.Ensure that work is completed in accordance with project specifications.Review all hardware, etc., to ensure it is functional and complies with the specifications provided by suppliers.Release approved drawings to the factory with sufficient handover documents.Assists in the interpretation of drawings and specifications to resolve technical matters in the factory.Check releases to factory for accuracy, troubleshoot errors and correct problems for future projects.Product development to better company standards always.Actively participate in regular meetings to discuss ongoing projects, challenges, and opportunities.Report project issues and escalate where necessary.Report on the progress of drawing completions and ensure the timely completion of all allocated projects.Fulfilling these responsibilities will contribute to the overall success of the manufacturing process by improving efficiency, maintaining high-quality standards, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.Qualification & Skills:Qualification in industrial design or related field.Strong understanding of design development and curiosity to explore products within the joinery industry.Proficiency in BIM software:Must have sufficient skills in using specialized software, such as AutoCAD, to create 3D building models and generate 2D drawings and documents. Our company makes use of Microvellum as our primary design software, based on AutoCAD, and training will be provided. Self-study will be required to successfully fulfil the required needs within this role.Strong problem-solving skills:Must be able to identify and resolve conflicts or issues in the design process and produce creative solutions to complex problems.Excellent communication and teamwork skills:Must be able to collaborate closely with a team and be able to effectively communicate ideas and information.Diligence:Must be able to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines and be able to pay close attention to the detail.Project management skills:Must have the ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.Adaptability:Must be able to adapt to changing project needs and work effectively in a demanding environment.
