- Conduct thorough inspections of diesel engines to identify problems, defects, and malfunctions.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to pinpoint issues in the engine, transmission, and other components.
- Perform repairs and regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and belt adjustments.
- Disassemble, repair, and rebuild engines when necessary, which may involve replacing parts, such as pistons, cylinders, and gaskets.
- Identify the root causes of engine problems and develop solutions to fix them.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems in diesel engines, including sensors and control modules.
- Work on hydraulic systems in heavy machinery, such as construction equipment, to ensure proper function.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain brake systems, suspension components, and steering mechanisms.
- Perform welding and fabrication to repair and modify engine components or vehicle structures.
- Utilize a wide range of tools and equipment, including wrenches, jacks, diagnostic software, and power tools.
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines when working with heavy machinery and potentially hazardous materials.
- Conduct routine maintenance schedules for diesel engines to prevent breakdowns and extend their lifespan.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and service performed on each engine.
- Communicate with vehicle owners or operators to explain repair needs, costs, and timelines.
- Keep the work area clean and organized to ensure a safe and efficient workspace.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in diesel engine technology and repair methods.
- Adhere to environmental regulations when disposing of hazardous materials like oil and batteries.
- Collaborate with other mechanics or technicians to tackle complex repair projects.
- Provide good customer service by answering questions and addressing concerns professionally.
- Be available for emergency repairs and road assistance to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
- Minimum 5 years experience in commercial vehicles
- Running repairs and breakdowns on Volvo Trucks, Tautliner Trailers and Wabco Air systems
- Red seal certification
- Age 25 - 55 years old
- Own Transport
- Valid driver license
- Be comfortable working normal hours and overtime when needed.
- Reside in Kempton Park or the surrounding areas
