Operations Manager - DurbanFull job descriptionKey responsibilities:a. Production, Maintenance and Engineering Operationsi. Define a cost-effective Maintenance, Production and Lean Manufacturing Strategy for the Safal Steel Plant as a whole with the emphasis on Continuous Improvement and Root Cause Analysis.ii. Ensure compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and continually drive OHSE improvements as required by the act.iii. Executing the production plan through understanding of sales forecast and plant performance and ensure availability of all resources to meet the local and export demand.iv. To ensure proper methods are used during production processes to control losses in terms of material wastage due to non-prime generated, rework, spillage in order to control costs and improve yield and through put by driving Operational Excellence.i.e. 1. Right first time2. High productivity3. High efficiency4. High effectiveness5. Minimise Waste / Maximise value add v. Product QualityEnsure prime product, first time as per quality standards set down by quality specifications.Ensure rejected product / non-conformance is rectified as high priority and that customer expectations are managedDefects are investigated and remedial actions are put in place to prevent re-occurrenceManage quality product and system improvements b. Safety, Health, Environment and Riski. Continuously drive and improve safety, health and environmental behaviour of all employees in line with company strategy and policy.ii. Lead the continuous improvement of site housekeeping & ensure standards are consistently sustained.iii. Support the development of a safe working environment for all sub-ordinates.iv. Oversee the Implementation of a Safal Steel risk register and ensure compliance c.People Managementi. Create a disciplined work culture, which is focused on the sustainability of Safal Steel. This will include but not limited to: o Customer driven results.o Teamwork.o Defining of common goals and personal accountability.o Talent Identification and succession planning in line with applicable guidelineso Manpower planning and cost management. ii.Training of Subordinates in line with business needsiii. Ensure team compliance with Safal Steel performance management policies, procedures and key performance Indicators. 4. Budgetary responsibility: a. Compiling and adherence to annual operational budget. Closely track and manage overhead recovery with regards to overhead costs and volumes that are in alignment with the company’s strategic plan. 5. Procurement responsibility: a. Ensure accurate forecasting of all required critical equipment and raw material in adhering to the approved operational budget. Key competencies and skills: a. Be able to get things done and make things happen to achieve the aims of production and the business. Possess the ability to work productively, efficiently & effectively with initiative and drive under tight timescales and pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and quality. 1.Qualifications requiredi.Minimum academic qualification:Mechanical, Industrial, Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering BSC or B Eng Degree.ii. Qualifications as an added advantage:Government Certificate of Competency – Factories (Department of Employment and Labour, South Africa)Management Qualifications and professional registrations 2.Experience Required:i. General work experience (years):Minimum 10 years in a similar heavy steel manufacturing environment.Minimum 3 years Management experience in the heavy steel manufacturing environment
