People Operations Specialist - Cape TownFull job descriptionA Travel Technology company based in Cape Town is looking for a People Operations Specialist to join their People team. Working closely with the Head of People in the Cape Town office, this is an exciting opportunity to be a key player in helping to build a world-class people operations function. The People Operations Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day people operations tasks and efficiencies across the various touch points of the employee journey, including onboarding, offboarding, and all the touch points in between.Location: Waterfront, Cape Town, South AfricaDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO:Be the first point of contact for all employee enquiries and requests, providing exceptional support through various channelsConsistently and seamlessly executing day-to-day people operations tasks, including but not limited to contract management, payroll, benefits, leave administration, etcCoordinate onboarding processes and programmes, and play an active role in initiating scalable changes and improvements to drive a world-class onboarding programmeMaintaining precise records and managing people data to ensure compliance with regulations and minimise risk; this includes tasks related to Employment Equity, WSP/ATR, and other people compliance mattersContribute to the development of people policies/guidelines and procedures that will aid performance, help the business scale, and maintain the company culture.Assist in managing employee relations issues in accordance with labour law and company guidelinesSupport recruitment efforts by coordinating full-cycle recruitment activities; this may include assisting with sourcing, screening, coordinating interview processes, reference checks, and offer management as neededCoordinate training and development programmes and take care of the day-to-day management of the associated processesAssist in executing employee wellness initiatives and contribute to people event planning and coordinationIdentify and drive process improvements (onboarding, performance review systems, feedback loops, training, etc) that keep the employee experience and teams’ mission at the foreAnalyse data and key insights from people operations and organisational development processes to inform decision making and enhance the employee experienceREQUIREMENTSCustomer Service Orientation – demonstrates concern and passion for the needs of the customer (internal and external) and continuously strives to meet those needs. Has exceptional interpersonal skillsExcellent communication skills (written & verbal) – the ability to clearly, openly and empathetically communicate across all levelsContinuous improvement orientation – does not accept the status quo. Continuously surfaces friction in the employee experience and recommends or/and makes improvementsAdaptable – open and willing to learn new things, take on new challenges and make adjustments to suit transitions in the workplaceCollaboration – the ability to work efficiently within the People Team and across departments in a streamlined mannerProblem Solving – ability to solve problems and provide advice when called uponUrgency - ability to move quickly, make confident decisions with a sense of urgency, and independently manage daily workAttention to detail – thoroughly and accurately completes tasks with a consideration of all the parts of the system. Work does not need to be checked or supervised.BACKGROUNDGraduate Degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management/Organisational Psychology is preferred2+ years of relevant working experience in an HR/People Administrator role, preferably in a fast-moving, dynamic Tech companyExperience using an HRIS system such as BambooHRProficient in the company operating systems, which include Google Workspace and Slack, or a proven ability to learn new systems quicklyA solid understanding of South African labour law and compliance requirementsAbility to manage multiple and constantly shifting prioritiesFamiliarity with employee engagement research, performance management systems, and training and development.
