  • You will report directly to the Lead Engineer.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:As an Electrical Systems and Field Engineer you will have the following key responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that all your projects are executed in line with the South African national standards, and other standards as required from the customers.
  • You will perform electrical system modelling, protection design, protection testing, protection and system commissioning, bill of quantities and Auto CAD drawings for all projects you are involved in.
  • Generating electrical designs and compiling detailed drawing packs.
  • Compiling project specific standards and specifications.
  • Project supervision and management of small to medium projects, taking responsible for whole project life cycle e.g. Design according to work scope, specification of equipment, procurement of material, budgeting, supervision during manufacturing process, testing, and commissioning of completed product, compiling equipment test reports and documentation, handover, and demonstrations to client during FAT, SAT and commissioning where and when required.
  • You will be responsible for the budgeting, resource management, planning, scope definition, implementation, and general coordination of all projects you are involved in.
  • Standardization and ensuring good engineering practises are applied to all electrical work you perform.
  • Specify, design, program and commission primary electrical equipment, secondary metering, and protection equipment.
  • Support the tendering process for other departments with respect to engineering work.
  • Coordinate individual project resources plans and support the endeavours of the engineering and installation services teams in this regard.
  • Technical problem solving, fault finding, with the possibility of periodic standby duties.
  • Be required to work on metering, protection, protection automation, instrumentation and control equipment and are required to use your own initiative and undertake self-study and research to become competent in a wide field of electrical and control engineering.
  • Support and take the lead on design and engineering projects.
  • You will also be expected to contribute to the development of the companys strategic planning and the development of our customer base and project services.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Enforce the policies and procedures of the company and maintain a high level of work ethic, quality, and discipline with the work force.
  • Support the company strategic plan, including the development and maintenance of the sales budgets and expenses ensuring an efficient and profitable business unit.
  • Development and mentoring of Engineers, Technicians and Trainees.
  • Development of design standardisation, products, services, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
  • Interface with sales, contract pursuit and project management departments.
  • Develop & submit technical reports on tests carried out and fault finding on equipment.
  • Always maintain a healthy working relationship with the customers representatives.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:Compulsory Requirements:
  • A Batchelors degree in electrical engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent to NQF level 7 with at least 3-5 years of experience.
  • A National diploma in electrical engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent to NQF level 6, with at least 5-10 years of experience.
  • Active experience with Auto CAD and/or EPLAN
  • Drivers licence is compulsory.
  • Fluency in Afrikaans and English is compulsory.
Other Requirements:
  • 2 Years active experience with ETAP and/or PowaMaster system modelling software.
  • Experienced with SolidWorks design software.
  • Experience on ABB, Actom and similar IEDs with the associated programming software.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Willing to travel and sleep out from time to time.
