- Operates, monitors, maintains, and responds to abnormal conditions in multiple facility systems, areas include: Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Life Safety, and Building Monitoring and Control
- Mechanical areas of responsibility include: data center cooling solutions, to include chilled water systems and components, various HVAC systems such as roof top units, split units, DX, CRAC/CRAH units, and humidification systems, as well as Kyoto Cooling if so equipped.
- Electrical areas of responsibility include: electrical/critical power distribution from the Utility/Generator main entrance switchgear through the UPS systems and distribution out to the customer load, and include load bank operations.
- Control system areas of responsibility include: electrical and mechanical controls systems operations and expected user knowledge.
- Fire Life Safety area of responsibility include: wet sprinkler systems and pre-action sprinkler systems as well as their associated fire detection devices and associated control system.
- Works with contractors and consultants for all system expansions, corrections and upgrades.
- Works with relevant teams to determine the building maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, control and fire life safety systems.
- Assists relevant teams to track, document, and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.
- Ensures data centre operates at maximum operational efficiency, including analysing existing operating conditions, recommending new approaches to operations and/or technologies, and improving overall efficiency and cost reduction.
- Assists with the management of data centre systems to avoid unplanned, customer-impacting events.
- Assists with the management of data floor and back of house/hotel load mechanical and electrical loading capacity thereby ensuring best use of available power and that the cooling system is operating at its highest efficiency.
- Performs data trending / tracking and analyse the data.
- Provides feedback to relevant teams on the effectiveness of existing standards and processes.
- Develops technical writing skills in regard to the research and development of procedures for preventative or corrective maintenance activities.
- Installs hot and cold aisle isolation barriers.
- Maintains client cages on the data floor.
- Orders, tracks and restocks facility related consumable items and parts ensuring performance at the lowest possible cost.
- Ensures a regular, predictable attendance which is essential for satisfactory performance.
- Operate and maintain critical and non-critical data center infrastructure, equipment and systems.
- Receive and execute work orders for preventative and corrective maintenance on critical systems, electrical systems and building physical structure.
- Conduct routine inspections on the equipment rooms, data center, UPS room and production areas.
- Monitor and assess all equipment and installations in the facility to ensure that they are in good working condition.
- Coordinate with building administration to ensure common area and list services are efficiently provided to clients.
- Monitor housekeeping program for assigned facility aligned to client requirements, NTT standards and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with client on housekeeping schedule and specialized work (Carpet, cleaning pest control).
- Assist with reporting of facility management operations and required metric reports to management.
- Assist in arranging security guidelines for security and closed-circuit television for client approval.
- Monitor power, cooling capacity, and environmental conditions within the data halls
- Work with a team of CFTs to deliver total availability (100% uptime) while minimizing risks.
- Troubleshoot and document technical issues, escalates as appropriate, and ensure issue resolution.
- Maintain strict adherence to change control activities.
- Adhere to all local and relevant safety laws, corporate governance and principles, etc.
- Has a demonstrated technical ability applicable to data center operations as well as, innovative thinking cross functionally, including integrated systems and information technology (IT) experience
- Entry level knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including, but not limited to the following: electrical distribution and layout, transformers, PLC's, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, STS', ATS' PDU's, Chilled Water Systems, CRAC/CRAH's, Pre-Action Sprinkler Systems
- Entry level knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues as well as building codes in regard to fire life safety
- Entry level knowledge in industrial safety best practices (i.e. lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations)
- Ability to rapidly learn and use PC based, integrated critical monitoring and control systems
- Proficient with computers to include the utilization of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations at the data centre.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays and on-call support.
- Ability to communicate effectively with verbal, visual and listening skills
- Good problem-solving skills.
- High school diploma required
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline
- Electrical or mechanical license, preferred
- Demonstrated experience in mission critical environments (electrical or mechanical critical facilities support)
- Facilities or building maintenance demonstrated experience
