- Supervise and lead small teams, including Technicians, Students, Draughtsmen, and Graduates.
- Mentor Technicians, Graduate Technologists, and/or Graduate Engineers in relevant software tools.
- Review and verify the work of team members.
- Enhance design capabilities and ensure quality standards.
- Prepare technical reports with a focus on technical and presentational excellence.
- Make technical decisions and provide solutions during project development.
- Assist in drafting responses to bids, with a particular emphasis on commercial aspects.
- Develop a thorough understanding of commercial aspects of project management.
- Acquire knowledge of Functional Unit technologies and markets.
- Inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specifications.
- Oversee construction administration and monitoring.
- Prepare tenders for construction, including Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and specifications.
- Develop tender bids to clients, including draft cost estimates.
- Perform design work in areas such as roads, stormwater, water, sewer, and earthworks under the supervision of a Professional Engineer/Scientist/Other Professional.
- Apply SMEC’s systems and procedures and ensure their adherence.
- Collaborate with clients and municipal line departments to understand and address their requirements.
- Compile contract documentation and specifications, including measurement files.
- Handle client invoicing.
- Contribute to project auditing if assigned the role of a quality auditor.
- Bachelor of Engineering degree or higher from an accredited university/college.
- Minimum of 3 years of practical experience.
- Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets.
- Knowledge of basic project management principles.
- Expertise in the design of municipal services, including roads, earthworks, sewer, water, and stormwater.
- Proficiency in CIVIL 3D and AUTOCAD Software Package.
