Supervisor - Initiating Systems Lab - South AfricaFull job descriptionOverviewKey Relationship:Management TeamCustomersSupport TeamsOperationsProductionSHERQAny other stakeholder as may be deemed important and relevant from time to timeQualificationsBSc, BEng Btech in Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial EngineeringAdvantageous:Project ManagementExperience5 years previous experience in the explosives industry and knowledge of initiating systems.3 years demonstrated understanding and ability to maintain the smooth running of a Quality Control or Initiating System test laboratory.Advantageous:Experience in Explosives manufacturingDutiesEffective evaluation of test results:o To enable BME to make informed sourcing and operational decisions or to take appropriate corrective actions in case of deviations.Optimize fit for purpose initiating systems:o Through development and continuous improvement interventions within own teams as well as in collaboration with third party manufacturers.Maintaining the IS Lab:o Identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.Responsible for implementing new programs:o Through conducting tests, developing new methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; developing and performing parallel testing; monitoring progress.Enabled and compliant plant delivery:o Ensure that the resources allocated (people, process and material) are optimally utilized as expected to meet their daily/weekly targets.o Optimize the Lab performance by recruiting qualified, well trained and experienced resources within agreed budget parameters.o Plan, organize and enable the Lab team to ensure that all required skills and tools/other resources are available as and when required in order to meet the target/schedule.o To ensure that the training plans are implemented and managed for all team members in line with the plant’s day to day deliverables.Ensure compliance to all legal and other safety procedures and processes as prescribed to minimize risksJob CompetenciesComputer literate with advanced excel skills, quality systems and quality tools.
