Horticulturist - Grabouw, WCFull job descriptionKromco (Pty) Ltd is one of the major role players in the pome fruit industry. They are looking for a dynamic Junior Horticulturist to join the Technical Department. This position will suit a self-driven, analytical, technology-oriented, and dynamic team player. The position will directly report to the Technical Manager of Kromco.Key performance Areas:Coordinate all new variety evaluations, selective technical field days for growers, field trials when needed, and general support for growers concerning orchard husbandry practices.Carry out preparatory tasks for the pack-shed and at times the execution of field trials on request by the Technical Manager.Collect and capture pre- and post-harvest trial data accurately.Assist in annual administration and tasks, i.e., orchard census, crop estimation, maturity indexing, picking standards, and additional tasks as required by the pack-shed.Represent Kromco at industry events related to pre-harvest disciplines.QualificationBSc Agriculture DegreeKnowledge and ExperienceA minimum of three years experience is ideal, but it is not mandatoryMust be computer literate.Good knowledge in the field(s) of horticulture (major must) and/or soil science and/or entomology.Key CompetenciesAbility to handle pressure.Physically fit and healthy to perform the duties as required.Good observation and problem-solving skills, as well as decision-making abilities.Willingness to work overtime.Good interpersonal skills (fluent in Afrikaans and English)Must be willing to do fieldworkValid Driver’s licenseJob Types: Full-time, PermanentPay: R30 000,00 - R40 000,00 per monthAbility to commute/relocate:Grabouw, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)Education:Bachelors (Preferred)Experience:horticultural: 3 years (Preferred)Language:English (Preferred)Afrikaans (Preferred)
