Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a critical role in providing legal guidance and support to the organization. The position requires efficient and effective resolution and mitigation of complex legal issues, ranging from litigation to commercial and stakeholder engagement. The senior legal counsel is responsible for managing legal issues faced by the business units and where relevant, working closely with the legal executive, management team, and outside counsel. The senior legal counsel manages contract and regulatory compliance, helps implement policies and procedures, researches and provides legally sound opinions, ensures compliance with the organizationâ€s governing structures, identifies and addresses potential legal issues and risks for current activities, operations, and strategic initiatives, and manages litigation. What youâ€ll do: Provide legal representation to the business units and support the work of the business units. Provide accurate and timely counsel to all departments on a variety of complex issues and legal risks within the business unit. Draft and solidify contracts and other legal documents to ensure the business unit's full legal rights. Review, edit, interpret, provide schedules of deviation, and advise on contracts and other legal documents (including inter alia bids and contracts) to ensure the companyâ€s full legal rights. Identify, research, and analyze legal issues and risks that affect the business unit and its activities at all jurisdictional levels associated with the organizationâ€s activities, ongoing operations, and strategic initiatives. Effectively manage and resolve litigation matters relating to the business units. Collaborate with the business units to devise efficient defense strategies. Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues. Develop and provide training on legal issues, processes, and policies to different audiences in the business unit. Communicate, present, and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority, etc), creating relations of trust. Knowledge of all legislation (including regulations and the like) relevant to our organization, including that relating to inter alia: Public sector; Commercial laws; Company laws; Labor laws; Technology laws; Corporate governance; and Intellectual Property laws. Maintain knowledge of amendments in the relevant legislation (including regulations and the like). Maintain professional and timely communications. Document and maintain legal files. Provide reporting, as required. Perform duties with integrity, responsibility, and accountability. Your Expertise: Minimum of 7 years of experience PQE. Excellent knowledge and understanding of commercial law and procedures. Significant professional experience with inter alia : public sector engagements; commercial contracts; management of litigation matters; detailed reviewing of bids and providing schedules of deviation relating thereto; and stakeholder engagement (internal, external, and regulatory). Proven experience in advising senior management. Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to understand complex legal concepts and analysis and translate those to non-lawyers. Outstanding communication skills. Prior success in building relationships and communicating with diverse groups of people to achieve communicated goals. Demonstrable legal analytical skills, general business acumen, and expertise in several of the core areas listed under “Responsibilities” above. Presenting and engaging on a regular basis with senior management and executives. Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills., Demonstrated ability to work with large volume of matters, in a fast-paced, and changing organization. Ability to work well through challenging situations and under pressurized environments. Qualifications Required: LLB and Admission as Attorney of the High Court. A high degree of professional ethics and integrity. Personal attributes/ soft skills required: Outstanding communication skills. Prior success in building relationships and communicating with diverse groups of people to achieve communicated goals. Demonstrable legal analytical skills, general business acumen, and expertise in several of the core areas listed under “responsibilities” above. Presenting and engaging on a regular basis with senior management and executives. Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills. Demonstrated ability to work with large volume of matters, in a fast-paced, and changing organization.
