(Fixed Term - 2 years)LocationNamakwa Sands – South AfricaPosition OverviewThe role of a Resident Engineer (2.13.1 engineer) under the Mine Health and Safety Act involves significant responsibilities related to ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of machinery, buildings, structures, and tanks within a mining environment. This role is crucial for creating and maintaining a safe working environment and preventing accidents or hazards within mining operations.Primary ResponsibilitiesThis role is accountable for:
- Report to the Project Manager.
- Appointed as 2.13.1 Subordinate Engineer under the Mine Health and Safety Act, responsible for the following:
- Safe installation, proper operation, running, and maintenance of all machinery
- Safe erection and maintenance of all buildings, structures, and tanks.
- Ensuring that safety appliances, mechanisms, and guards are maintained in good condition.
- Compliance with regulations relating to machinery.
- Stopping the work of any apparatus or machine that may pose a danger to individuals.
- Additionally, the 2.13.1 engineer must work within the framework of the Mine Health and Safety Act to uphold safety standards and protect individuals working at Tronox sites.
- Ensuring Health and Safety standards are implemented, Continuously assess, always maintained and provide assistance / guidance as needed to the project team.
- Efficient Management of Safety Team
- Ensuring Health and Safety standards are incorporated into design and ensuring 2014 construction regulations for all on-site contractors.
- Site communications – internally and to client team.
- Applicable B Eng, BSc (Eng) or B Tech degree
- SAMTRAC qualification advantageous
- Computer literate – MS Office and MS Projects
- Government Certificate of Competency Mining
- 15 Years’ experience in the Construction / Heavy industry or Mining environment.
- At least 5 Years’ experience as an appointed 2.13.1 or 2.13.3.1 appointee in a mine, or a combination thereof.
- Driver’s license (Code B)
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
- Working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Drive for results, strong interpersonal, leaderships and organizational skills.
- Good experience on large construction projects.
