Legal Advisor: NAR - MaseruFull job descriptionJob FamilyRisk, Audit and ComplianceCareer StreamLegalLeadership PipelineManage Self: ProfessionalJob PurposeTo provide legal advise to business unit to mitigate risk to Nedbank.Job ResponsibilitiesImplement controls and actions that maintain good standards of corporate governance and compliance with regulatory, statutory and good industry practices.Implement/support the implementation of the function’s proactive and corrective management actions against self, compliance, risk and audit (internal and external) reviews within stipulated timelinesProvide support for the administration and management of the board and directors’ affairs, including the coordination of meetings, minuting, reporting and actions trackingDrive the implementation of and compliance with the privacy and data protection requirements of the bank in line with legal and regulatory instruments, and the bank’s policies by amongst others, conducting new product, services, processes and systems impact assessments, producing privacy monitoring reports and maintaining a privacy inventoryDrive and monitor the implementation of the ethics programme in line with the bank’s code of conduct and related policies such as conflicts of interests and gifts and hospitalityDevelop and implement staff and other stakeholder training and awareness plans to drive the socialization and operationalization of legal and governance policies; conduct policy compliance monitoring activities and recommend corrective actionsFile the company’s statutory and regulatory returns with relevant authorities within stipulated periodsProvide meaningful legal advice and opinions to business and other stakeholders based on professional expertise, industry knowledge, and through thorough legal research and engagements with legal counterpartsIdentify legal, governance and reputational risks across the bank, and provide input into risk management reports by highlighting the risks to relevant stakeholders for corrective action to be takenRepresent the bank at any dispute resolution forum by presenting the bank's case at the forum.Job Responsibilities ContinuedKeep stakeholders abreast of recent developments in law and regulation that might impact their business through relevant communication channels and/or ad hoc in transaction meetingsManage litigation in liaison with external counsel and ensure that legal fees remain reasonable and/or competitive by monitoring outsourced legal costsDeliver a world class service to all stakeholders and ensure a service excellence culture through various required interventionsMeet internal stakeholder requirements by providing governance, policy, and advisory services.Support and understand Nedbank's vision, values and strategy by measuring delivery against these and by optimising efficiency and embedding the Nedbank valuesIdentify relevant development needs and assess own performance and behaviour, drive to execute own planned development and achieve personal and professional growth by continuously seeking learning opportunitiesImprove personal capability and stay abreast of developments in field of expertise by identifying training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from managers.Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities by ensuring all learning activities are completed; experience practiced, and certifications obtained and/or maintained within specified time frames.
